Starting from Isfahan
This satellite image shows the 40 known stopping places along the 1601 walk of Shah Abbas from Isfahan. Abbas (blue line) first headed northwards to Kashan, then northeast across treacherous salt desert (look for the white patch) and salt mud, before turning eastwards along the Khurasan Highroad to reach the holy city of Mashhad.
